It’s been over half a century since the crime drama Tightrope! aired on CBS, and its modern-day reimaging is on the way. Roku gave the green light to a reboot of the classic 50s series starring Ty Burrell and executive produced by Bryan Cranston.

Tightrope! originally ran on CBS for almost 40 episodes in the late ’50s, and it starred Mike Connors as an undercover agent Nick, who walked a thin line between good and evil after being assigned to infiltrate criminal gangs.

According to Roku’s official logline, its modern-day reboot “reshapes the drama of the vintage 1950s series into a slapstick comedy, where Burrell plays a lone wolf detective following cases city to city, while he searches for his long-lost love who got away.”

This project will be led by the Modern Family star Ty Burrell, who said he’s thrilled to be working with Roku on “this bonkers (in the best way) idea of a show.”

Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston will be credited as one of the executive producers alongside Burrell via Desert Whale Productions and Adam Small and Fax Bahr, who are also directing this project. Village Roadshow Television is producing the series alongside Roku, while Morgan Pichinson is overseeing it on behalf of the streamer.
