Tyler Perry’s collaboration with Netflix is a gift that keeps on giving, and they’re working on another series by each other’s side. Perry is developing a brand-new series Beauty in Black after signing a multi-year first-look series deal with the streaming giant.

According to Netflix’s official logline, this series follows “two women living very different lives: Kimmie struggles to make a living after her mother kicks her out, while Mallory finds success running her own business – eventually, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”

Perry will write and direct the 16-episode drama series, in addition to producing it alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios. It’s the first project developed under his new first-look series deal with Netflix, but it doesn’t mark the start of their partnership.

Perry previously struck a multi-year first-look film deal with the streamer back in 2023, and he already developed several upcoming projects since signing it. Crime thriller Mea Culpa starring Trevante Rhodes and Kelly Rowland will premiere on Netflix on February 23. Perry will continue his collaboration with the streamer with Six Triple Eight, the World War II drama about the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color stationed overseas.
