It’s been over a decade since Friday Night Lights ended its run, and it seems that a new take on this story is just around the corner. Universal TV is plotting a reboot based on this hit sports drama with original executive producers Jason Katims, Pete Berg, and Brian Grazer.

Universal’s reboot is still in the early stages of development, but Deadline reports it’s been taken out to market. It was just a matter of time before this moment arrived since talks about a potential reboot in the form of a TV show or a movie have been swirling around ever since the original series ended its run.

Friday Night Lights was created for NBC by Peter Berg and ran on this network for two seasons before moving to The 101 Network for the next three seasons. It was set in a fictional town in Texas and centered on the high school football coach Eric Taylor, as he tries to make the Dillon Panthers the best team in the league.

Universal TV’s reboot will also be set in the world of high school football. It will center on new characters instead of reuniting us with the previous cast, which included Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Gaius Charles, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki, Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemons, Michael B. Jordan, and Jurnee Smollett.
