Shipwrecked‘s Vick Hope has compared the show to Love Island, describing the former as the “more organic show.”
If you have only caught a couple of minutes of Shipwrecked, it would be unsurprising if you thought you were watching a new version of Love Island. Gorgeous young people strut around in their bikinis flirting with one another on a sunny island somewhere. It really does sound a little too familiar.
Strictly Come Dancing‘s Vick Hope has cleared things up for those of us who aren’t familiar with the show Shipwrecked, which last aired seven years ago. Speaking on Sunday Brunch, she explained exactly what it is that makes the two shows so different.
“With this show, they’re not your usual Love Island kind of contestants – they work in all sorts of different jobs, one works for a charity, one runs a festival, one works in a Disney store,” she said.
“They’re all in their early 20s, and they’re aware of how the cameras work and how TV works. But, it is a more organic show, I think, because it’s just a gap year.
“Even if the cameras weren’t there, they’d still be doing it. You still want to go and have this romantic getaway in the middle of nowhere with all these like-minded people. It feels more natural, it feels like reality TV used to feel.”
Shipwrecked is now back on TV, airing on E4.
