Viola Davis is set to add an influential figure to her acting resumé.

The How to Get Away with Murder actress has signed on to the new drama First Ladies.

Aaron Cooley is set to write and executive produce the Showtime series, which will focus on the women behind famous Presidents of the United States.

The official logline for the series states: “In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of our most enigmatic heroes…”

The first season will focus on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama, who Davis has been cast as.

The Emmy- and Oscar-winner is so far the only actor attached, although the project has not yet officially been ordered.
