It’s been almost two decades since Zack Snyder’s 300 hit the theatres, and it seems we’ll soon get to revisit this world. Warner Bros. TV is plotting a TV series set in the same universe as the hit historical epic led by Gerard Butler.
This series is still in the early stages of development, with no writer or platform officially attached to it. Deadline reports it would most likely be a prequel to the 2006 historical epic, and it would see Zack Snyder reunite with Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann, who produced the original film.
300 draws inspiration from the comic book series of the same name written by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. It’s a fictionalized take on the legendary Battle of Thermopylae, which saw King Leonidas lead an army of 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian army counting 300,000 soldiers.
300 became a true cultural phenomenon following its premiere in 2006 despite mixed reviews and earned $456 million against a $60 million budget. In addition to Butler, it also starred Lena Headey, David Wenham, Dominic West, and Rodrigo Santoro. Some of the original cast members returned for the sequel 300: Rise of an Empire, which came out in 2014.
