In 1989, five teenagers were wrongly arrested for a crime they did not commit.
The five boys — who were of African-American and Hispanic descent — were accused of attacking and raping a white female jogger in New York City’s Central Park.
The incident led them to be known as the Central Park Five and their story escalated as they were convicted by two separate juries and each sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Thirty years after the case, their story is being brought to Netflix by Ava DuVernay.
The Selma filmmaker has both written and directed the four-part series which spans 25 years in the life of the five teenagers.
With the first full trailer for the show now being released by the streaming service, we have proof that When They See Us is going to be an extremely raw and emotional journey.
Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, and Joshua Jackson form part of the cast.
When They See Us premieres on Netflix on May 31st.
