Pack your lunches, because we’re heading back to Rydell High!

HBO Max has announced that it has ordered a television series that will be a spin-off of the classic musical, Grease

The teen film came out in 1978, launching the career of Olivia Newton-John and it made everyone want to dress head to toe in leather.

The series, entitled Grease: Rydell High, will introduce viewers to a new set to students and it’s set to explore the peer pressures of high school, the horrors of puberty, and life in middle America during the ‘50s. It will also feature big musical numbers from the era combined with new original songs.

“Grease is an iconic pop-culture phenomenon that works for every generation, and I’m thrilled that our friends at Paramount were excited about the idea of opening up the show and putting it on a larger canvas for a weekly series,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of content at HBO Max. “This is high school and life in small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock ’n’ roll musical. It’s Grease 2.0 but with the same spirit, energy and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs. You’re the One That I Want!”

Fans of the musical can also get excited over a prequel film in development entitled Summer Loving that will focus on the initial vacation where Danny and Sandy met.
