Sky is plotting a new series about the incredible journey of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and they found a perfect actor to play him. The White Lotus star Will Sharpe will play the legendary composer in Joe Barton’s new series.

This series draws inspiration from Peter Shaffer’s stage play and it’s been described as a playful reimagining of Mozart’s life. It will take us to the bustling streets of Vienna at the end of the 18th century, when this city used to be the musical hub of the world.

The series will see the recently unemployed 25-year-old Mozart arrive in Vienna, determined to carve his own path. He finds a perfect partner in crime in his future wife Constanze Weber Mozart, who’ll introduce him to the court composer Antonio Salieri, setting them on a collision course that will ultimately define their lives and legacies.

This limited series will reunite Sharpe with Giri/Haji writer Joe Barton, and Sky described it as a “fresh, intimate and irreverent” reimagining of Mozart’s life.

Will Sharpe recently appeared in the second season of Mike White’s anthology series The White Lotus, and received an Emmy nod for his supporting turn. He’ll next be seen in Lena Dunham’s Netflix series Too Much alongside Megan Stalter.
