Jennie Snyder Urman is developing a new version of the classic legal drama Matlock for CBS, and this project will reunite her with one of her past collaborators. Jane the Virgin alumna Yael Grobglas will reunite with Urman in this promising reboot, led by the Oscar winner Kathy Bates.

Jane the Virgin showrunner Urman developed the new version of Matlock, which will star Bates as the brilliant defense attorney who uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases after rejoining a prestigious law firm.

Grobglas joined the series as the jury consultant Shae Banfield, known as a human lie detector due to her ability to sniff out the truth using her mastery of body language, facial expressions, and neurolinguistics.

The show’s supporting cast also includes Skye P. Marshall as a senior attorney Olympia, Beau Bridges as the head of the firm Senior, and Jason Ritter as his son Julian, who also happens to be Olympia’s ex-husband, plus David Del Rio and Leah Lewis.

Yael Grobglas rose to prominence while playing Petra Solano on The CW’s satirical telenovela Jane the Virgin alongside Gina Rodriguez. Her credits also include smaller guest roles in TV shows Reign, Undone, Supergirl, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
