After seven seasons on the air, Young Sheldon came to an end this past week, and an impressive number of viewers tuned in to say goodbye. The hit series went out with a bang and hit a four-year audience high with its finale, which attracted 8.95 million viewers.

Young Sheldon has been doing pretty great throughout its final season, attracting around 7 million viewers per episode. The fans of The Big Bang Theory prequel series were eager to see the conclusion of this story, and the two-episode finale scored 8.95 million viewers, the most since the Season 3 finale in 2020, which attracted 10.15 million same-day viewers.

Given its strong ratings, Young Sheldon could’ve gone on for several more seasons, but executive producer Steve Holland felt now was the time to end it because we already know what Sheldon Cooper’s future holds.

“We started talking about the future of the show, and what it looked like. This is the right time for this story to come to an end, knowing that at 14, he goes off to Cal Tech. It felt like the right time to end it strong while it was on top,” said Holland, according to Deadline.

Young Sheldon may be over, but CBS already ordered one spin-off series set in the same universe, starring Montana Jordan And Emily Osment. They’ll be back as Georgie and Mandy, who are navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage while raising their young family in Texas.
