]]>When The Simpsons first aired, it was ahead of its time. Lisa Simpson is and always has been a progressive, compassionate, intelligent young girl who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. We’ve seen Lisa fret over her body image while also leading activist campaigns. Her relatability and relentless empathy make her so much more than your typical goofy cartoon character.
Rick and Morty has been a gamechanger from the start. Rick Sanchez spins the lovable cartoon grandpa stereotype on its head and instead becomes a model for true nihilism. His character enables the show to move away from the American nuclear family and into outer-space.
Bojack Horseman is one of the most controversial cartoon characters on TV. His backstory is harrowing and time and time again we find ourselves forgiving Bojack for his atrocious behavior. The irritatingly likable washed-up TV star is used as a tool for social commentary. It works so well because the whole time our hearts are getting ripped open by the show’s writers, we are rooting for a guy with a horse’s head.
Bean is the fierce protagonist of Disenchantment. She reverses stereotypes of the Disney princess and instead belches, yells, and fights her way to the life she wants.
Just when we thought South Park couldn’t get any more controversial, PC Principal shows up. His character provides witty meta-commentary on the culture of political correctness and brings a new lease of life to a show that remains relevant even after 23 seasons.

]]>The geeky sit-com may have wrapped up in 2019, but there is still a “Bang Bang” shaped hole in many of our lives. Nayyar, who played Raj in the show, recently took to Instagram to reflect on the show’s ending. In his post, he shared a behind-the-scenes photograph to celebrate a year passing since the show wrapped up filming for good.
“This picture was taken exactly one year ago. Our last taping of tbbt, also happened to be my birthday. As I reflect on this year, it has been one of change,” he captioned the image.
“But not all change is bad, for the greatest experience to come out of all the uncertainty and the turmoil has been – the realization that nothing is promised; and that has given me a sense of deep profound inner peace.”
He then added: “Because at the end of the day, all is precious, all is precious, all is precious. This birthday my only wish is for one moment today, tell someone you haven’t spoken to in a long time, that you love them. And if they look confused, just say “It’s Kunal’s birthday, this is his present…”
If you are missing The Big Bang Theory, celebrate Kunal’s birthday by telling someone you love that you love them. It’s what Raj would want.

]]>Cuoco is taking on the role of the eponymous anti-hero in the DC series. The series follows Harley Quinn on her own adventures without Joker. Showrunners have previously teased that the infamous Poison Ivy will be in the show and that her friendship with Harley Quinn’s may move in a romantic direction.
In the comic series, Harley and Poison fall in love and so fans have been excited by the possibility of an animated series that explores this character arch. When Conan asked Cuoco about this, she seemed to confirm that the speculation is true.
“Let me put it this way: Harley’s gonna need some calamine lotion,” she quipped. “That was a funny joke! I just thought of that off the top of my head.”
Of course, calamine lotion is the treatment used for a poison ivy sting…
You can watch seasons 1 and 2 of Harley Quinn: The Animated Series on the DC Universe app.

]]>The pandemic has meant that many TV shows have had to put filming on hold. Among the list of shows that have had to hold out on releasing new episodes is Supergirl. The filming of season 5 was interrupted and now, the writers are taking the opportunity to rework the season finale. This means that supervillain Lex Luther (Jon Cryer) will have a new ending.
“The Supergirl folks have talked to me because we couldn’t shoot our last episode,” Cryer told PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing. “We had shot some of the last episode, and they’re gonna use some of that footage, but they’re writing a whole bunch of new stuff around it.
“Which is interesting because the way my character was thwarted now doesn’t happen anymore,” he continued. “So I was like, ‘Oh, did I not get defeated? Wait a minute, I like this! Supervillains, we relish our chance to actually not be defeated every now and then.”
Could it be that the bad guy actually wins this time around? We’ll have to wait until season five is released to find out.
Supergirl airs on The CW.

]]>The award-winning TV series Fleabag stars Waller-Bridge as the sassy and hilarious lead. We learn an awful lot about the character throughout the show, but we never learn her real name.
In an interview on This Morning, Waller-Bridge shared the meaning behind the name Fleabag. And it does carry a deeper meaning.
“A fleabag motel is something that’s a bit rough around the edges and a bit of a mess,” she explained. “I wanted to call her that because I wanted her persona and her outside aesthetic to give the impression that she was completely in control of her life, when actually, underneath, she’s not.”
She also revealed that “Flea” or “Fleabag” was one of her nicknames growing up. This suggests that the character is a little more based on Waller-Bridge’s personal experiences than we may have assumed.

Although the new season has its harrowing moments, it also looks like there will be some lighter and wholesome moments too. Tony declares that he wants to help those around him who helped him get through the aftermath of his wife’s death. We also see more of Joe Wilkson, the eccentric postman who apparently has a big crush on Rosheen Conaty.

]]>A sit-com about technicians working in the IT department sounds mundane on paper, but the mundanity of the job leads to some pretty uniquely funny circumstances.
If you have seen the U.S. remake and not the original UK version, it’s time to amend that mistake. The Inbetweeners is a classic British comedy about teenage boys who are all equally terrible in their own charming way.
You may recognize Jack Whitehall from Fresh Meat or Bad Education. The British comedian decided to travel the world with his father and make a docu-series about his experiences. It’s heartwarming, interesting, and very funny.
Derry Girls shines a light on life as a teenage girl growing up in England in the ’90s. It’s charming, funny, and a compelling portrayal of working-class life at the end of the millennium.
Greg Davis is a national comedic treasure. While Man Down is also one of our favorites, Cuckoo makes the list based on the fact that each season somehow gets funnier and more ridiculous than the last.
Ricky Gervais wrote and starred in a dark comedy about life as a widower. It can be heavy at times, but overall it is an uplifting and superbly funny series.

]]>The animated show follows Princess Adora, the twin sister of He-Man, on a wild journey. The series has been going strong for four seasons, but now showrunner Noelle Stevenson has revealed that the animated Netflix series has been canceled.
Fortunately, the show always intended to wrap up after five seasons and so the news will not disrupt the storyline.
“It has been such an incredible journey so far just getting to share these seasons that are already out and seeing the reactions,” Noelle told Entertainment Weekly. “I do feel very lucky because we knew from the very beginning what our episode order was, so we got to tailor the story very specifically to how long the show was gonna be.”
She then added: “The story definitely evolved along the way, from people who worked on it and following the story threads that seemed right and where the characters led us. We set out with a plan, we executed that plan, so it’s very satisfying to see it wrap up like this.”
The fifth and final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will land on Netflix May 15th.

]]>The spin-off series is set in 1930s LA, where things are starting to feel a little apocalyptic. Game of Thrones and Dark Crystal actress Natalie Dormer stars as the demon, Magda.
In the trailer, we see Magda punch a policeman in the face and proceed to wreak havoc around her. “Open your arms sister. I will give you many souls today,” she says in the clip.
The scene then cuts to the title card, showing a blood-red sky with eerie writing.
It looks like the spin-off series may be even more chilling than Penny Dreadful. You can read the official synopsis for the series below:
“When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.”
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will premiere April 26th.
